Phyllis R MitchellPhyllis R. Mitchell, 94, of Waco, passed away on Saturday, August 6, 2011 in Providence Hospital in Waco.

Services were 10 a.m. on Tuesday, August 9, at OakCrest Funeral Home with the Rev. Richard Roland officiating. Visitation was from 6-8 p.m. on Monday, August 8 at OakCrest Funeral Home, 4520 Bosque Blvd.

Phyllis was born at home November 2, 1916 in San Benito, Texas, the daughter of Fred William Barg and Ena Leona (Denison) Barg. She graduated from San Benito High School in 1934. Phyllis was married to Duval Roever of Olmito, Texas on September 15, 1938. He preceded her in death on June 15, 1976. She was married to Lyle Mitchell of San Francisco, CA on March 5, 1983. He died on April 13, 1994.

Phyllis was a poet and an artist with a clever sense of humor. She studied at the Dallas Art Museum and in Corpus Christi. She worked as a cosmetician for 15 years, the last nine years as the Estee Lauder Representative at J B Ivey Company in Jacksonville, FL., retiring at age 65. She was a caring person with a special place in her heart for her pets. Phyllis was a member of United Methodist Churches in Texas, Florida and California.

Besides her husbands, she was preceded in death by her parents, and a brother, Verne.

She is survived by her daughter, Jean Roland, and husband, Rev. Richard Roland, of Waco; son, Phillip Roever of Jacksonville, FL; sister, Marian B. James and son, Bill James of Kernesville, NC; brother, Robert L. Barg, and wife, Evelyn of Bastrop; grandchildren, Kathleen Minshew of Waco, Kara Kinman of Lubbock; Kristen deVezin of Westfield, IN; Bethany Reams of Woodstock, GA; and Jeffrey Roland, of Baton Rouge, LA; great-grandchildren: Austin and Anna Bradley, Haley and Hope Kinman, Peter and Noah deVezin, Cole and Gwen Roland, Richard and Charlie Reams; nieces, Carol A. Barg and Paulette Jackson, both of Austin; and nephews, Gary and Ronnie Barg, both of Austin, and Fred W. Barg of Canyon Lake

The family would like to thank the staff of the Texan Nursing & Rehab of Waco for their loving care and the Providence Hospital ER personnel, the doctors, and the nurses on 3 South for their compassionate care of Mrs. Mitchell.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Fuzzy Friends Rescue, 6321 Airport Road, Waco, TX 76708.
