The first baby born in the San Benito, northern Cameron County area was baby Isabella Magdalena Gonzalez, daughter of Laura Canseco and Tray Gonzalez of San Benito. Baby Isabella was born at 11:48 a.m., Jan. 1, 2012 at Valley Baptist Medical Center-Harlingen, weighing in at nine pounds, seven ounces. Nicolas Sanchez of San Benito is seen here after bagging these two massive bucks on the morning of Friday, Dec. 30 in Zapata County. Sanchez and his son Adrian hunt on Gonzalez Ranch, where the first 8-point buck on his right came out at 7:03 a.m., and while waiting to get down to find his deer, a big-horned, 9-point buck appeared to his left at 7:21 a.m. In just 18 minutes, Sanchez shot two bucks after going a whole year of not shooting anything.
