Ricardo Alvear

Ricardo AllvearRicardo Alvear, 51, of Olmito, TX, passed away peacefully on January 14, 2012 after battling cancer for over a year. He spent his last hours surrounded by family and friends at Valley Baptist Hospital in Harlingen.

Ricardo Alvear was born in Brownsville, TX to Consuelo Lopez and Jorge Alvear. Rick attended Brownsville schools and Our Lady of Guadalupe Church. He hunted enthusiastically with his brothers, cousins, uncles, and friends until Friday afternoon. He spent memorable hours telling entertaining stories about ‘the ones that got away’. With a family of fisherman and the luxury of the Island and Boca Chica so near, he developed a love for sea creatures — the ones he would fish for as well as the ones on a menu. Rick moved to Houston with his wife, Diana and later returned to Olmito to manage the Olmito Tortilla Factory with his father. He continued as sole manager until his fight with cancer made it difficult. Sooner than expected, and with Rick’s constant coaching, his brother Jorge took over the business keeping it alive. Rick II has now partnered with Jorge to bring the business into the 21st century.

Ricardo Alvear is preceded in death by his grandparents Doroteo Alvear and Maria Longoria and Nicolas Lopez and Consuelo Garcia, aunts and uncles, Gilberto De Leon, Isabel Orozco, Nicolas Lopez, Jr.; Arturo Lopez, Jose Lopez, Alonzo Alvear, Samuel Alvear and Oralia Garcia.

Ricardo Alvear is survived by his wife, Diana Cisneros Alvear and their sons, Ricardo II and Erik Alvear; his parents, Jorge and Consuelo Alvear; his brothers, Jorge Luis (Norma), Jorge Jr., Armando, Roberto and Arnoldo Alvear (Jennifer); his nieces and nephews: Jorge Luis Jr., Julian, Nikko, Cierra, Savanna, Armando Jr., Melinda, Robert Jr., David, Peter, Kaitlyn, Allison; and many ‘Tias’, ‘Tios’, cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.

Visitation was held at 1 p.m.-9:00 p.m. at Sunset Funeral Home on Monday, January 16, 2012, with recitation of the holy rosary at 7 p.m.
