A San Benito man was sentenced to 25 years in prison for sexually abusing a 12-year-old boy.

According to the Cameron County District Attorney’s Office, 56-year-old Jose Ernesto Pacheco appeared before a district judge in the 357th courtroom and pled guilty to continuous sexual abuse of a child. The plea was part of an agreement for a lesser sentence.

The range of sentencing for this act, as stated by Jason Moody, Special Projects Coordinator of the DA’s office, is no less than 15-99 years or life in prison without eligibility of parole.

The indictment reads, “The 12-year-old male … was sexually abused from September 2007 to July 2008.” On July 15, 2009, the victim made an outcry regarding the offense after being removed from the home by Child Protective Services. The relationship between the victim and the abuser has been withheld for the child’s protection.
