A San Benito man is fighting for his life after he was struck by a car in an apparent hit-and-run on Thursday.
It was the evening of August 2 when Ruben Saldaña, 51, was hit by a car at the corner of S. Frontage Rd. and Hidalgo. The driver of the vehicle reportedly fled the scene.
Police received a call at approximately 9 p.m. from a witness who informed them of the incident, adding that Saldaña appeared unconscious. It is also believed that Saldaña was walking on the sidewalk at the time of the accident.
Assistant Operations Chief Michael Galvan of the San Benito Police Department said that Saldaña was rushed to Valley Baptist Medical Center in Harlingen, where he’s currently in a coma and is not expected to recover. Saldaña’s official condition as of presstime is critical, according Michael Swartz, director of communications for Valley Baptist.
