emergency-lightsRIO HONDO – Sheriff Omar Lucio said Tuesday that the man who learned of a relative’s intentions to murder his girlfriend and commit suicide prior to carrying out said crime did not, by law, have to report such information to authorities.

“No, not really,” Lucio said when asked if the male cousin of 39-year-old Jose A. Sanchez was under lawful obligation to report a telephone conversation, in which Sanchez said to the cousin that he planned to shoot and kill his girlfriend before killing himself.

Sheriff’s investigators believe Sanchez made good on what he told his cousin after his dead body was found along with his girlfriend’s, 45-year-old Marisela Galvez Villarreal, inside the bedroom of their home, located on the 33100 block of FM 106 just outside Rio Hondo.
