Commissioners proposed an approximated 4.4 percent annual increase on property taxes, which translates to an additional $.73 per $100 of taxable property. Last year’s statistics value an average San Benito homestead at $57,491. Assuming the value of the homestead does not change, such a tax increase would cost the taxpayer an extra $25.05 in 2012.
This would be the first tax increase of this nature since the 90s, and city officials argue that revenues generated will be allocated to repair road damage within San Benito.
