SAN BENITO—Maria Ana Gomez, 97, went to be with Our Lord and Savior, peacefully in her sleep on Thursday, September 6, 2012.
Maria Ana was born on January 27, 1915 in San Benito, TX where she lived all of her life.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Alfred Gomez and an infant son.
She is survived by her children: Guadalupe Colchado (Cody), Amelia Flores (Abel), Alfredo Gomez, Jr. (Inez), Gilberto Gomez (Janie), Antonio Gomez (Jamie), Maricela Gomez and a precious grandson, Manuel Gomez (Araceli), whom she raised. She is also survived by two siblings Dolores Garcia and Eduardo de la Garza, 16 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held for Mrs. Gomez on Monday, September 10, 2012 from 1 p.m.-9 p.m. with a prayer service at 7 p.m. at Henry Thomae Funeral Home. Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m. on September 11, 2012 at Mont Meta Cemetery in San Benito, TX with procession from the funeral home to the cemetery departing at 9 a.m.
Serving as pallbearers will be Manuel, Cody, Justin, Gilbert, Gary and John.
Maria Ana will be lovingly remembered as a hard worker, spending many hours alongside her children in cotton and vegetable fields across the U.S. in her younger years. She lived a long and wonderful life and was a great storyteller. She laughed often and loved deeply. She had a great sense of humor, often playing jokes on her friends and family. If you invited her for dinner, you would find yourself at Whataburger ordering a #6 on toasted buns. Her favorite saying upon your departure after a visit with her was “Dame un Beso.” Her family would like to extend their sincere gratitude to TX Visiting Nurse Services Providers: Gabby, Maria, and niece Leticia, Dr. Juan Garcia and Staff.
