San Benito CISD Board of Trustees Vice President Anna Cruz

In response to a police report that San Benito CISD Board President Yliana G. Rodriguez recently filed, in which she claims to have been assaulted, Board Vice President Anna Cruz said Friday that she will move forward regarding her role on the board.

“I still want to stay focused on my students’ education,” Cruz said when asked about the charges. “I take being a board member very seriously and I’m going to stay focused on the education of our students and what’s in the best interest of all the employees of the district.”

However, Cruz said her attorney has advised her not to comment on the specifics of the allegations levied againd her by Rodriguez.

As reported Thursday on sbnewspaper.com, law enforcement authorities confirmed that Rodriguez filed a police report Wednesday accusing Cruz of class C assault, a misdemeanor.

Officials said Thursday that Rodriguez filed the report with school district police. Initially, Rodriguez tried filing charges against Cruz with the San Benito Police Department but was informed that because the alleged assault occurred on school district property that it would be a matter for SBCISD officers to investigate.

Specifically, and according to authorities, Rodriguez is accusing Cruz of misdemeanor assault that allegedly took place at a recent school district workshop. The circumstances involved in said allegations, however, have yet to be revealed.

The San Benito News is currently awaiting response to a public records request filed Thursday for the report in question.

Attempts to reach Rodriguez for comment have been unsuccessful as of presstime.

  1. Is this Ms. Ana Cruz in this picture? Or Ms. Huerta?

Eliah, excellent point. I called TEA last week as well. More citizens need to call or write, we already have their attention.

I truly feel for Anna Cruz, she doesn’t deserve to have her name tarnished by Yliana Rodriguez. What point is Rodriguez attempting to convey, is it “don’t you dare come near me, for you are the enemy”, or “how dare you breathe the same air I do? I know Ms Cruz will persevere, but it does make you wonder to what extremes Rodriguez will go to avenge her fellow non alliance board members .

Investigate Rodriguez. What is in her head to even think about filing charges against a fellow board member. She acts as if she has power. No power for you, lady! Only when a meeting is called do any one of you have a collective voice. Guess she needs another board training. How much is that going to cost now? She, along with her 3 friends, continue to make SB the laughing stock of the Valley.

Ms. Cruz statement was well received, she should be the president. The current president is so hungry for power. She has a big ego. She had to leave to Los Fresnos to find an administrative job. We can now see for ourselves why SBCISD wouldn’t hire her as administrator.

  2. Everybody keeps stating to report the idiot board president to the T.E.A.; however, it seems as if no one has actually taken the time to do so. I believe that this accusation from Yliana is merely an act to remove the attention from the infamous insurance letter she asked Janie to write. Instead of taking the time to comment, everybody should take the time to call the T.E.A. to conduct a thorough investigation. They should also ask for an investigation of the e-mail account she uses to communicate with the board, if it is a personal e-mail she uses it can still be investigated because it is the one given to communicate about school district issues. If we the citizens of San Benito do not take the time to call the T.E.A. and report Yliana, we are just as guilty for allowing this. I urge everyone to call or write to the T.E.A., I already have because I will not stand for this!

This stuff is sooo GHETTO! If the other board members allow this garbage to continue, then THEY are just as GHETTO. Wake up SB! These people are making us look like FOOLS…not that we need any more help doing that, especially if we consider the other SPECTACLE taking place over at City Hall.

The accusation states Ms Cruz touched her with her finger! Why is this assault? Even if true this is not worth getting the SD PD involved, Unnecessary and a waste of time. Every time there is controversy on the board it involves the president. Can the citizens of SB do something to get her out. Shame on all SB voters who voted for this person.

This president is out of control!!! I don’t know how Los Fresnos CISD could have her as a principal of an elementary campus! Hello!!! I hope Ms. Cruz takes her to court and sues her for slander and for filing a false report. Yliana Rodriguez needs to be investigated and prosecuted! We all need to call TEA and the Cameron County DA’s office to get involved. This president is bringing our school district down!!! INVESTIGATE THIS LADY and REMOVE HER AS PRESIDENT! Wake up Julian and Fatima Huerta!!! Don’t be her puppet!!! Yliana must go!!!

We respect Mrs. Cruz because she has always been a caring educator. The BOARD PRESIDENT is an EMBARASSMENT to SBCISD. INVESTIGATE THE BOARD PRESIDENT… SOMETHING DOES NOT SEEM RIGHT
