Gregory M. Haas

Gregory M. Haas, Ph.D., of Rockville, MD passed away on Sunday, March 17, 2013. Beloved husband of the late Tybe Haas, devoted mother of Debra (Marty Hood) and Michael (Barbara) Haas. Dear brother of Jonathan (Nancy) and David (Sandra) Haas. Loving grandfather of Martin, Joseph and Miriam Hood and Henry and Dorothy Haas. Loving and beloved partner of Alice Follender Harris.
Gregory Haas was born in Buffalo, NY and lived in San Benito from 1945 until his high school graduation in 1953. He received a Ph.D. from LSU in particle physics in May 1963, was at Oak Ridge National Labs, Oak Ridge, TN 1963-1967; was at University of Houston Dept. of Physics from 1967-1973. Moved to Washington, DC in 1973; worked with The MITRE Corporation; moved to the U.S. Department of Energy in 1976; served as the Chief Scientist and Superconducting Supercollider (SSC) from 1990-1995, and retired from the U.S. Department of Energy in 1999.
Funeral services were held on Tuesday, March 19, 2013, at B’nai Israel Congregation, 6301 Montrose Rd., Rockville, MD 20852. Interment following at King David Memorial Garden, Falls Church, VA. Memorial contributions may be made to B’nai Israel Congregation.
