SAN BENITO—Rafael Manuel de la Garza, 71, entered into eternal life on March 22, 2014.

He was a lifetime resident of San Benito, TX. He started his employment career while in Jr. High and High School working for Ogdee Bros. Department Store. He worked for Goodyear Tire Co and retired after 24 years of service. He also worked for the City of Harlingen and retired after 15 years. He was a veteran of United States Army.

He was preceded in death by his parents Adelaida Ramirez de la Garza and Rafael Manuel de la Garza.

He is survived by his devoted wife of 46 years; Rose Anes de la Garza, his children; Mary Alice Sanchez, Angela (Gilbert) Sanchez, Ralph de la Garza III, and Gilbert Michael (Tina) de la Garza all of San Antonio, TX; his grandchildren Alyssa Sanchez, Roel Sanchez Jr, Amelia Rose Sanchez and Romi Mendoza; his siblings Evana (Danny) Davis of San Benito, Nelda (Filiberto) Trevino of Kingsville, Norma de la Garza of San Antonio, Laura de la Garza of San Antonio, Ramon de la Garza of San Antonio and David de la Garza of San Antonio. He will be missed by numerous nieces and nephews that loved their “Uncle Ralph”.

Visitation will be held from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. with a rosary recited at 7 p.m., Tuesday, March 25, 2014 at San Benito Funeral Home. Mass of Resurrection will be held at 12:00 noon, Wednesday, March 26, 2014 at Our Lady Queen of the Universe Catholic Church. Interment will follow at Mont Meta Memorial Park.

Pallbearers will be Perrin Ramirez, Robert Ramirez, Carlos Ramirez, Jacinto Montes, Mario Salazar and Tony Delgadillo. Honorary pallbearers will be Eliseo “Cheto” Villarreal, Crescenio Salazar, Arnold Mercado, Robert Montalvo, Alfredo Montalvo Jr., Meme Castillo, Alvaro Trevino and Henry Abrego.

  1. good bye to an old highschool buddy. we ran in the same circles in the 60’s when we graduated. I can remember bobby esparza, rudy uresti, mimi galvan, emily cortez, cheto villarreal, sonny ramirez and so many more old friends.

    I can relate to the sadness and grief the family is experiencing. my brother ,arnold villarreal ,also just recently passed away. My condolences go out to the delagarza family

  2. I have not seen ralph since high school but I remember a close friend and fellow graduate. You couldn’t help but like him and his personality. my thoughts remind me of the time we spent back in the 60’s when we graduated and went on to become responsible adults. I remember bobby esparza, rudy uresti, mimi galvan, emily cortez, sonny ramirez , cheto villarreal and so many more that ran together in the same social group. I can relate with the sadness and grief since I recently said goodbye to my brother arnold.

    My condolences to the De La Garza family! Ralph was a wonderful person who I have looked up to since childhood! God Bless your family!
