Driver in deadly wreck gets 50 years

BROWNSVILLE – A McAllen woman charged with five counts of intoxication manslaughter pled guilty to the crime after accepting a plea deal on Thursday.

Margaret Gil, 32, was involved in a June 30, 2013 car wreck on State Highway 100 near Los Fresnos. Gil was driving a 2006 Toyota RAV 4 going westbound on Highway 100 but reportedly crossed the median and struck a 2013 Toyota Corolla head-on. A family of four from McAllen, Edward Gomez, 32; Erika Olaya Davila, 30; Jolexy Alvarez, 13; and Kamilla Isabel Gomez, 3, were traveling in the Corolla and were killed.
