The City of San Benito has approved an $11,348,360 budget for the upcoming fiscal year, down from last year’s $11.6 million.
The property tax rate will remain unchanged at $0.728125 per $100 assessed property valuation for the fiscal year. The new budget will take effect Oct. 1.
Administrative costs total up to $1,887,110. For the Mayor and City Commission, the budget is listed at $29,303 with City Management allocated $516,609, according to a budget summary provided by city officials.
The city has also budgeted $466,309 to IT (information technology), and $118,773 to Public Affairs.
Planning and Development is budgeted at $176,435. The city has also set aside $302,824 for the Public Library.
Public Safety is allocated $6,278,456, with $3,382,495 set aside for the Police Department. The city has $2,127,096 budgeted for the Fire Department and $382,885 for Code Enforcement.
Public Works is allocated $2,182,075; Street Maintenance is budgeted $1,318,917; and Parks and Recreation has a budget of $61,011.
The city has also appropriated $410,879 out of the Debt Service Fund to pay principal and interest due, and redeeming the bonds as they mature.
There’s $386,580 appropriated for the Housing and Urban Development Community Development Block Grant (CDBG).
According to the budget summary, there’s $4,401,804 appropriated for Waterworks Maintenance and Operations.
Wastewater Maintenance and Operations are appropriated $3,420,450.
There’s also $2,942,700 budgeted for Solid Waste Maintenance and Operations.
The city allocated $1,718,943 toward the Economic Development Corporation (EDC) for operating expenditures.
