Last week, we saw that God has perfect wisdom for our lives and we can access that wisdom by reading the Bible. Today, we will address the question: what kind of attitude must I have to receive the wisdom of God?

We know that in any kind of learning, we must have a desire to submit ourselves to the teacher. Submission requires respect for authority. Understanding the wisdom of God found in the Bible is more than just reading it. One must have respect for the author. The author is God Himself.

“The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge, but fools despise wisdom and instruction.” (Proverbs 1:7 NKJV) The word fear in this passage comes from the Hebrew word “yare,” which means “morally reverent.” It also means “afraid, fear, fearful.”

In the realm of education, we naturally fear that our teachers will fail us if we do not meet their expectations. We fear our college professors will fail us if we do not show them the reverence that they are due in the learning process.

We should have the same attitude when we endeavor to learn the wisdom that comes from God found in the Bible. Why will we not give Him the same kind of honor, reverence and respect that is due Him?

Proverbs chapter one goes on to explain the foolishness of despising the wisdom and instruction that is found in the Bible. When we reject who God is, we will automatically reject the wisdom of scripture,

“The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom; a good understanding have all those who do His commandments. His praise endures forever,” Psalms 111:10 NKJV. The word fear in this passage comes from the Hebrew word “yira,” which also means “morally reverent.” Literally, it means to have a dreadful, even an exceeding fear or fearfulness of the moral reverence for God. This word describes having an even deeper awareness of who God is. If we do not honor Him as God, it will be impossible to fully receive the knowledge of who He is and the wisdom found in the Bible.

However, when we do honor Him it is the beginning of an amazing journey to acquiring wisdom and good understanding.

“My son, if you receive my words, and treasure my commands within you, so that you incline your ear to wisdom, and apply your heart to understanding; yes, if you cry out for discernment, and lift up your voice for understanding, If you seek her as silver, and search for her as for hidden treasures; then you will understand the fear of the LORD, and find the knowledge of God. For the LORD gives wisdom; from His mouth come knowledge and understanding.” Proverbs 2:1-6 NKJV.

It is obvious in these passages that God wants us to have a sincere desire to receive from Him. These scriptures describe an active process of seeking, searching for, crying out, and putting oneself in a position of receiving. God wants us to understand Him! He wants us to find the knowledge of who He is! He wants to give us His knowledge and understanding! He compares it to finding hidden treasure. Who doesn’t want to find the hidden treasure that God has for us? I surely do!

“He has made the earth by His power, He has established the world by His wisdom, and has stretched out the heavens at His discretion,” Jeremiah 10:12 NKJV. The Creator and Maker of all things has this same wisdom available to us. He has this same kind of wisdom and discretion for us as well.

Are you tired of the empty wisdom this world has to offer? Do you want to begin to make decisions that are a blessing and not a burden to your life? The wisdom of God contained in the Bible is all we need to change the course of our lives. It is free. If we will just fear God the way we are taught to fear our parents, teachers, professors, law enforcement and the laws of the land, then He will make all things known to us in His perfect wisdom.

Jesus wisdom and teachings lead us to Heaven through salvation then a following of his teachings. If the explore Christopher Columbus without seeing believed there was land out there, sailed out found land and returned to Spain with proof? Just as Jesus in his wisdom now tells us there is a Heaven, a place for those who follow his commandments and teachings. Jesus of Devine nature would not have spoken about heaven if he had not been there? There are may reasons to seek out the Lord’s wisdom if not only for the fear of there bing a hell which is a entirely different topic in the Bible. We can rest assure Christ dies so we may have a chance to live with him in Heaven? We must first pick up our crosses and follow him…

    JOHN:17:24 2 COR.5;1-6,8.
