Padilla to resign as SBHA executive director

Arnold Padilla confirmed Friday that, after nearly 10 years with the San Benito Public Housing Authority, he will resign from his executive director position effective Oct. 31.

Citing a new opportunity, Padilla said, “I submitted my 30-day notice of resignation from the Housing Authority.”

For now, Padilla said it’s most likely that given his 30-day notice, the Housing Authority will select an interim for the period between his departure and when the new director is hired.

Concerning the process for finding a replacement, Padilla said, “Normally, most procedures for housing authorities are that they’ll post an advertisement.”

Normally, finding a new executive director is a process that takes six to eight weeks, and as much as 12 weeks.

The board will first set criteria for the type or person they are looking for based on qualifications and experience.

“There’s never been a committee … but usually the board itself does the interviews and the evaluations,” he explained, adding, “that’s usually the … process.”

Padilla says he has been happy throughout his 10-year tenure at the SBHA, noting that he is surrounded by an “excellent staff” with “excellent people” who’ve done “a terrific job.”

“It was a difficult decision; one that I pondered for a few weeks,” said Padilla, who also serves as the president for the San Benito CISD Board of Trustees.

He says that while there are some emotions that come with his departure, there is excitement as he looks forward to his next endeavor, which he did not confirm as of press time Friday.

It was in 2005 when Padilla left his elected position as a San Benito City Commissioner to replace Abel Morales as the SBHA executive director.

“I feel comfortable that this housing authority will continue to do well,” he said.

Padilla also mentioned notable accolades while serving for SBHA, in which he also expressed appreciation for the opportunity to serve as its executive director.

“We’ve been rated a high-performance agency with HUD (U.S. Housing and Urban Development),” Padilla said, noting further that the housing authority has also been awarded “a high financial rating.”

“Career-wise, this is the appropriate depiction for me at this time,” he added.

Concerning his new position, Padilla asserted, “It is something I’d like to keep private, all I can say is that it is something that is good for me — good for my family … It’s in the same arena of what I do now, but we’ll leave it at that.”

You should change your name to ” I Support Incompetence”, because that’s what you expressing. All you bloggers that support these folks must not have children that attend SB schools or you would be singing a deferent tone. But, I’m more than sure you have something to gain in this mess; unfortunately, that’s what our school system and town has turned into a money pit for the few elite who benefit. By the way, they have no shame. What needs to be blogged, is how our children’s education is going to get better and who’s going to be held accountable for the mess. Maybe just maybe, Ana Cruz should hire another one of her friends at $100k plus to teach our teachers what they already have been taught. What a joke and disgrace to our tax payers and children.. Go ahead an applaud and protect this mess!!!!

Blah, blah, blah. Noise. Like Inquiring Mind said, all you are is noise. Can tell by your spelling mistakes you are the same person who writes as Frustrated Parent #’s 1-100. Changing your names is clever to give the appearance many others share your views, but you’re not fooling anyone.

In all fairness to you, I sympathize with your feelings of frustration. Perhaps the new changes are difficult for your child(ren) to adjust to. But we are two months into the school year; how can you or anyone be certain these changes will not work in the end? There has been very little time for results to be proven one way or another. At the end of the year I could be supportive of your position if we see a decline or no improvement in performance. But attacking changes simply for the sake you thought a different tact should have been used is counterproductive to our children. The voters decided we needed change and, for better or worse, these are the people they thought provide us the best chance.

Ya know, Inquiring Mind made a good point when he/she wrote that we root for our sports teams to win but we root for our children to fail in the classroom to justify our reasoning for attacking the school board. Why do we do that? Think our children are unaware of all the “adult” turmoil? Think again. In the formative years in these children’s lives, we so-called adults are sending confusing messages that cannot be healthy for their development. How can we ask them to buy into any system when the adults they look up to can’t get it together.

We are defeating our children before they’ve had the chance to succeed. We must stop!

This is my last comment on this matter, my friend. Do hope you will consider my words and how we are negatively impacting the psyche of our children in this way.

    #UncleSugar, #FrustratedParent100, #FrustatedParent, etc,

What a bunch of political “gadfly(s)”….if you (think or know) you can do better, run for political office and show “your true colors”.

There is an election next year.

I’m sorry but your blog is a total joke. You would applaud the mess these incompetent politicians have shown. You would always comment and criticize the previous majority and now your protecting these clowns. When you have to blog to protect someone’s lack of education, that’s a joke. It is what is, Arnold has shown his true colors of being a puppet and nothing else. His lack of educations shows constantly, with the dumb decisions that have transpired since they took office.. It’s obvious what you stand for, and that’s having power and controlling politically at the cost of our children’s education. That’s why our school district is a joke, because the board members are clowns..

“You would applaud the mess these incompetent politicians have shown.” Which incompetents are you referring — the current board or the last?

“You would always comment and criticize the previous majority and now your protecting these clowns.” I never commented on school district matters until the crap they pulled on Limon. You remember the year-long campaign of harassment they inflicted on the man that amounted to nothing. They had a year to make the investigation come out their way and could not do it. There is your ultimate example of incompetence. Do NOT blame this new board for coming in and putting an end to that fiasco, as they were overwhelmingly mandated to do by the voters. The voters of this community had had enough, which is why we now refer to the board in terms of old and new.

“When you have to blog to protect someone’s lack of education, that’s a joke.” I’m not defending his level of education; don’t have to. That is solely his choice, and it’s not for me or you to judge. If you don’t want to vote for him because of that issue, fine. But there is an overwhelming number of your neighbors who feel differently than you. I’d be careful about criticizing someone’s education, if I were you. Your comment doesn’t scream rocket scientist, you know.

What I am defending is the attack on Padilla’s character that a handful of you die-hard-leftovers from last election’s losing side is baselessly heaping on him. The true joke in all this is he has options and opportunities because of his good character and reputation in his industry that the two of you apparently don’t have. If you did, you would have already moved on from your defeat six months ago, but you haven’t because you can’ rise above your own petty selves.

“His lack of educations shows constantly, with the dumb…” Really? “EducationS”? Unless I’m mistaken, Padilla has only one of seven votes on the board, so none of those decisions are his alone. He’s just smart enough to vote in the best interest of the district and children.

So, you two clowns, I’d say the joke is on you but you are the punch line. Thanks for the opportunity to rebut your feeble attempts to assassinate Padilla’s character. If I’m not mistaken, I do believe I know who Uncle Sugar is, and you have no room to talk about the character of anyone else. But it does explain your envy of Padilla. Fortunately for Padilla, when he closed the SBPHA door, a truckload of doors opened up for him. 😉

  3. @inquiring minds
Here’s your facts so you can be enlightened!!!!!!

Since you do live under a rock and you don’t pay attention to all the shenanigans your click is doing, let me recap it for you!
1.) Super Arnold aka board pres. Gave his brother a $3.57 raise! It’s public information.
2.) After the tax payers paid for the investigation on Limon, the new board sealed it and gave him a 2 yr extension.
3.) Ana Cruz voted on her own agenda item, approving for a $800k plus program that has never been proven to work! Plus she brings in her BFF from Brownsville and pays her $105k to run the program, and they also created a position for Medrano’s BFF Felix to comeback to work after quitting for the fourth time.
4.) Angel Mendez made a huge mess of the dual enrollment which still has everyone shacking their heads.. But of course that benefits him and his consulting company..
5.) Hiring of all their compadres as consultants ex. Lorenzo Sanchez..
If you think all these political moves are suspicious and criminal there is something wrong you.. It’s ok the FEDS are watching every move and yes San Benito ISD should be on the radar by now!!! So continue defending them you probably benefits from all these shenanigans!!

      1) Super Arnold was making 90K at the SBPHA. Not bad for someone without a degree. He was protected by the same gang that ran the City for years. Arnold has many secrets among his compadres.
      2) Limon is no prince for sure but remains silent because he is in up to his ears with political compadrismo from current and previous administrations. He has made deals with the DEVIL.
      3) Ana Cruz is FOR Ana 100%. End of story.
      4) Angel Mendez is FOR Angel 100%. End of story.
      5) Wasn’t Sanchez fired before?? Lornezo Sanchez is FOR Lorenzo and his compadres 100%. End of story.

      And so it goes.

Uncle Sugar, looks like you have ‘Padilla’ Envy. Can’t stand to see the man succeed, can you? Annoys you to no end that a man with no degree likely makes more than you. Probably burning your butt that he’s moving on to bigger and better things while you’re stuck here, frustrated, with nothing to do but blog about a man who’s out-performed your puny little life. I’ll let you in on a little secret: Try as you might to belittle his accomplishments, you will always be less than him.

I’ll tell you something else, some of the greatest instances of incompetence society has ever witnessed have been committed by people with a degree. Degrees alone don’t make people successful. And belittling Padilla and trying to undermine his achievements will not make you the better man or improve your existence. If it makes you happy to do so than there’s something wrong with you that no degree will fix.

Victor? The “victor” is Padilla. He rose above the small-minded of this community to make a better life. Good for him! We should be celebrating success stories like his; instead, some denigrate his successes. He rose above the naysayers of this community to be well respected in his field. It is attitudes of people like you that keep this community down.

I read the comments bashing this new SBCISD board and the board before it…and the board before that. Don’t people realize that each time we root for the new board to fail we are rooting for our children to fail. We root and cheer for our sports teams, but we cheer louder and more zealously (thanks, Jacob Lopez!) against each new board’s attempts at bettering our district. Each and every comment we make attacking the attempts of our school board is a condemnation of our students. Each side is rooting for our children to fail to justify hostility towards the other. This is what we are doing to our children, our future.

Crabs in a bucket. Parasites…feeding off our host until there is nothing left. This is our community and what is left of it from the grand days of decades ago. We are destroying our children, our community, our future. Competent people like Padilla are forced to leave to find appreciation and peace of mind elsewhere.

No one person or one group has all the right answers. Solutions to most problems are found through trial and error, but no problem is too large to solve when people work together. The new program this board is instituting — the “Ana” plan, as some have labeled it — would it be so horrible if it actually worked to raise the quality of our children’s education? Instead of criticizing, why can’t we support it to see if it actually helps our children? Why must we root against the future of our children and the products of our community, like Padilla? Why?!

No, I’m not the Victor you’re referring to. There will be no victors in this community until we start working together.

Thank you, Frustrated, for providing instances. Can’t agree they are facts, since you ignored one glaring fact: I do NOT live under a rock! Had my head in the sand, but don’t live under a rock! Also, they are not my clique! Have only met two board members…no, 3 board members. None are my friends, to clear that misconception. But, to address your issues…

      1) Padilla himself gave his brother a raise? Don’t believe he has the power to give anyone a raise. Can you provide a link to the meeting containing the action item where Padilla gave his brother a raise?

      2) Not uncommon to seal an investigation’s findings, especially when nothing came of it. Will not get into a pissing contest about the old vs. new board, as inept as I found the old board.

Numbers 3-5 I don’t know enough about to comment on intelligently. However, I thank you for taking the time to provide the examples you provided.

The investigation occurred during the Yliana power trip. If her group didn’t do anything with them (the findings), why should he (Padilla). It’s the same information. There is a reason her group didn’t and wasn’t able to do anything with the findings. You have 10 fingers – be sure to point them at all responsible.

I’m going to start off by asking: I would like to know what Triple P, Inquiring Minds, and Puro Fart are going to do about this problem plaguing San Benito? You seem to think that there is nothing wrong with the system that is now in place for our school district and city. All of you are attacking anyone who has anything to say; you seem to have all the answers to our problems. I’m sure the rest of us would love to hear what your solution is to all this debauchery. You all are also just sitting on the fence observing all the problems that are happening and doing nothing to fix it either; finger pointing is a lot easier than trying to take responsibility for wrong actions. If any of you voted for these individuals then live with it, but remember for the next election get to know the candidates before you go to the polls. Be part of the solution not the problem. As for political favors if you haven’t seen any them, either you have been living under a rock or you are not involved with what is going on. (I’m not going to humor you by listing what they are) In conclusion, no matter what you or I have to say about a solution, remember we are not in office, we have no power in making any changes; the only power we as citizens have is the “Power of the Vote”. This is a Blog, and the last time I checked we are free to express our “Opinions” here. Thank You.

I live in Alaska. I read this because there isn’t much to do over here. It is quite the popular paper and website I’d like to add. You guys are my source of entertainment. Putting two and two together, I am not allowed to vote since I don’t live down there in San Benito, TX. I have not seen political favors because I don’t live in that region – that is why I ask for details/specifics (which tend to hardly to never be given). Opinions are allowed – no doubt about it. I wasn’t telling them to shut up or to stop giving their opinion. I was clearly giving my opinion in the form of question. I truly did enjoy reading your “I’m not going to humor you by listing what they are” statement. The irony is that the statement was actually quite humorous. If you read my previous comments (which it appears that you have), I address the questions made to you now…

And the last time I checked, this was a comment section, not a blog.

      >b>”debauchery?” “finger pointing?” What are you talking about? I asked for proof to support the accusations I’ve been reading. Period. Didn’t point fingers or attack, simply asked for examples.

“As for political favors if you haven’t seen any them, either you have been living under a rock or you are not involved with what is going on.” GUILTY!!! Actually, had my head in the sand down on SPI, so I haven’t been involved. Having admitted that, please tell us; PLEASE give all of us specific examples of what you’re talking about. By all means, humor me! “finger pointing is a lot easier” when you don’t support your argument with facts. Which brings me to…

“Opinions.” I am not attacking anyone here for their opinion. All I am asking for are facts in support of their opinion. Without facts you are libeling people when you accuse them of baseless acts. Please provide.

“All of you are attacking anyone who has anything to say; you seem to have all the answers to our problems.” Isn’t that what those of you are doing when you attack Padilla and the new board? Every action they take you attack. They are providing solutions some of you don’t agree with and you’re attacking them. Right or wrong they are attempting to answer problems that exist in our district, and they have received the “Power of the Vote” you so reverently mention, to do so.

“Be part of the solution not the problem.” What good are you accomplishing by expressing your “opinion” without backing it up with facts when asked? Do you really think you can sway anyone to listen to your opinion when they see you can’t support it with facts? Without facts you are the problem, not part of the solution. Without facts you are just noise pollution; a disharmonious racket interfering with people hearing and focusing on the change that is taking place in this community. You are the proverbial fingernails on the community’s blackboard.

The “Power of the Vote” has spoken less than six months ago and yet you attempt to drown it out with your static while extolling the “Power of the Vote.” How can you champion the “Power of the Vote” at the same time you try to negate the “Power of the Vote?” Is that giving your opinion any more or less credence?

Please, by all means, enlighten us with facts. I want to know the facts. If my opinion is wrong, I want you to provide me with the facts that will change my mind. I am not attacking you, I am asking one last time, please provide facts in support of your stance.

Their won’t be any solution to anything if people continue not to work together. You agree to disagree and you move on. Same thing can be said about the (Yliana group) They are-were the most unprofessional and deceitful bunch of power hungry unhappy people you will ever meet. They too caused a lot of damage to our school district at the cost of our children’s education and in the public eye. Trust and believe me when I tell you the people spoke and some of the candidates were voted out because people also had had enough. But then we can go on, and on, and on, like the energizer bunny. Never a dull moment.

  4. @ Triple P
The case and point I’m trying to make is be part of the solution not the problem. We the voters/parents of our community need to take a stand and hold public servants accountable for making decisions that affect our tax dollars, and more importantly our children’s education. I feel one key element is get to know the candidates, not listen rumors from greedy political fractions who have done nothing but milk our school district dry and not hold our high paid administrators accountable ( Tumberlinson group)! They are the most unprofessional and deceitful bunch of power hungry unhappy people you will ever meet. They have cause a lot of damage to our school district at the cost of our children’s education. So that being said, look at the facts and pay attention to all the political favors going on right now with our school board, if you want to contribute to that type of nonsense that’s your choice but I will not!!! “be part of the solution not the problem.” “the dual enrollment program that these geneses (Padilla, Mendez, Ana and Medrano) fought so hard for. Now it’s a huge debacle.”

How do we know that the dual enrollment program is not the solution? We’re only in the second month of the school year; not sure that is enough time to declare it a “huge debacle” or anything else. It’s only a “huge debacle” to those who will oppose every move of the four board members you named. If any one of them uses the restroom during a board meeting, I’m certain, will also be a “huge debacle.”

Once again I ask, please list the debacles this board has created. “Trust me when I tell you, I’m not alone.” Confer with the others of “the most unprofessional and deceitful bunch of power hungry unhappy people you will ever meet,” and provide us a list. Fustrated parent (Frustrated?): I respect your opinion. I’ve heard your opinion before. Many express the same opinion. In fact, both sides of the fence express this exact same opinion yet the same bickering exists year in year out. Padilla’s group says vote out Yliana’s group. Yliana’s group says vote out Bob T’s group. And on and on. Both claiming “vote for people with integrity, education and our children’s best interest at stake”. So I will reword my question and now address it to you: What is your solution? Who is “people” in reference to when you state: “vote for people…”?

  5. @ Triple P
My opinion the solution is simple, vote for people with integrity, education and our children’s best interest at stake. Most board members get caught up in glory of being a politician and forget the very principles they ran for. Just analysis what’s transpired the past year and it’s very easy to distinguish the board members that are there for our children. Take the issue with the dual enrollment program that these geneses (Padilla, Mendez, Ana and Medrano) fought so hard for. Now it’s a huge debacle and the parents and community are extremely upset. This is a prime example of board members modifying policy for their self-gain, just ask Mendez. Lately this has become just another typical day in the world of San Benito School politics. Vote smart 2015, AND YES ANA CRUZ MUST GO!!!!!!!

With a new Mayor and new appointees at the Housing Authority, Padilla could no longer practice his personal indiscretions and be Mr. Big Time in charge.
During the Mayoral transition, his master Victor lost his position on the SBHA board, so Arnie lost his mentor. Remember Victor was the one that took him out of the radiator shop.
There has been corruption at the SBHA forever. Let’s hope the new board and the Mayor can root out some of the corruption.

  7. Will it appears something’s never change with Arnold Padilla, the trend continues. When he feels pressure, he turns and run the other way. Maybe just maybe there’s a chance he’ll step down from the School Board, he hasn’t done anything for our children anyway just waste tax payers dollars and take care of his own by giving them pay raises and jobs! On the other hand, It’s interesting with his minimal experience and lack of education that he would get a job that pays his him what he was making at SBHA, thanks to his puppet master Victor Trevino! Will the positive thing is that now the incompetence is someone else’s problem. It will be interesting who the Mayor selects as New Director, don’t be surprised if it’s a good old boy that will continue to cover up the mess that’s been going on for years at the SBHA..
