The San Benito High School Mighty Greyhound Marching Band is seen performing at the Area G Competition in San Antonio on Saturday — a performance that earned the band a second place finish at the competition and its second consecutive trip to state. James Miculka, Director for Fine Arts of Northside ISD, is also seen presenting SBHS drum majors with their second place plaque. Band members then received a hero’s welcome upon returning to the SBHS band hall Sunday, where fans showed their support.

The San Benito High School Mighty Greyhound Marching Band is headed to state…again.

After placing second at Area competition on Saturday – higher than any other high school band from the Rio Grande Valley – SBHS Band Director Marc Perea expressed enthusiasm and pride in his students. It’s pride shared by many supporters who flocked to the SBHS band hall Sunday afternoon to give the band a hero’s welcome.

“This whole past weekend was just pretty surreal for us, and to walk away the best band in the Valley really speaks volumes about our community and what we’ve been able to do in the past six years,” said Perea.
