Juventino “Tino” J. Salazar

San Benito/Houston, TX — Juventino “Tino” J. Salazar, 95, passed away on February 4, 2015 in Houston, TX.  Juventino Salazar

Juventino was born November 18, 1919 in San Benito, TX to Ramon and Refugia Ruiz Salazar. Tino attended school until the 8th grade and after WWII he attended an Auto Mechanic School, where he received an Auto Mechanic License.  Tino also held a Texas Inspection License.

He served his country with Army Air Corp as an Ellington field Medic Driver in 1942, then in May of 1944 Tino was transferred to the Army as the frontline volunteer for overseas in Rhineland Central Europe during WWII.   He was honorably discharged in 1945 and awarded the Lapel Button issued, European-African-Middle Easter Theatre Campaign Ribbon; American Theatre Campaign Ribbon, one Overseas Bar; Rifleman 745 Combat Infantry Badge, (3 Bronze Stars), the Purple Heart, and Good Conduct Medal.

Tino was employed by the Civilian Conservation Corp from the age of 15 until the age of 20, then with the Army Air Corp, Army, and Mechanic Civil Services at the Harlingen Air Base.  Later he owned and operated mechanic shops in San Benito from 1958 to 1965 and in Houston, TX from 1973 to 2003.

He was of the catholic faith and was a member of St. Benedicts Catholic Church in San Benito and of All Saints in Houston, Texas.  Tino enjoyed repairing old cars and buying and selling cars.

He is survived by his daughters, Gloria Salazar Gonzales and her husband Jose G. Gonzales and Sylvia Salazar;       grandchildren, Christina Zamora, Selina Gonzales, Mario Noe Gonzales; great grandchildren, Jacob Zamora and Alexis Richard, Allysa Tran and Asher Evans.

Tino was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Anita Juarez Salazar; son Noe M. Salazar; brothers, Emiliano Salazar and Ruben Salazar; and sister, Minerva Salazar.

Visitation will be held on Monday, February 9, 2015 from 12:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. with family present from 6:00 p.m. to 8 p.m. A rosary will be prayed at 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home.

The funeral procession will depart Buck Ashcraft Funeral Home on Tuesday at 10:00 a.m. for a 10:30 a.m.  Mass of Christian Burial at St. Benedicts Catholic Church in San Benito.  Interment with full military honors will follow at Mont Meta Memorial Park in San Benito.
