The San Benito Housing Authority is still in search of a new executive director following the departure of former director Arnold Padilla in late October. Currently, Janet Velez sits as interim.

Regarding finding a new executive director, Chairperson Ron Rogers said, “We are getting closer.” The group met in executive session to discuss the terms of the contract, but those terms will only be made available once negotiations are complete.

According to Rogers, the board is taking its time “making sure we have all our i’s dotted …  all our t’s crossed.”

Once again, “Executve Session”, “Terms to be made available only once negotiations are complete”; where have we heard those phrases used before ? The battle cry of San Benito politics/schoolboard nosepicking.

Who is the current attorney they’re looking to replace?

    1. Janice Cassidy. Former city attorney.

I recall when former Mayor Joe Hernandez was re-elected after his ouster for failing to pay his property taxes. His first order of business was to purge all individuals he perceived as enemys. His first act was to replace City Attorney Janice Cassidy with former mayor Ricardo Morado.

Then, the Public Housing Authourity board members, appointed by Mayor Joe Hernandez who had sole legal authority to appoint them, terminated the contract with Attorney Janice Cassidy.

Now it appears that Attorney Janice Cassidy, who I believe is used by the Housing Authority, is now on the sights of the new board members of the Housing Authority.

Mr. Rogers comment “We’re just looking for the best attorney at the best price,” is utterly insulting and a prevarication of the truth. When such a statement is made in public, it is to hide the underlying true meaning, which is to replace somebody without cause. Please don’t insult our intelligence.

What disappoints me is that some things just “NEVER CHANGE”. San Benito is severely “ethically challenged”.
