Simply put, the San Benito School District’s financial budget is in a major crisis.
Since the introduction of charter schools into the San Benito area back in 2008, student enrollment in the public school sector has significantly declined, according to SBCISD officials.
This factor has put a major dent on the school district’s funding, which receives money through the state based on student enrollment. ..

I was able to attend last night’s board meeting and I was completely taken back and appalled at how Dr. Puig addressed the board members. Does he not know that they oversee him? He also seemed to be a vendor for TRS trying to sell a product and at times I felt as I was at church with Pastor Puig preaching! Come on! There’s a difference between passion and desperation.

To sb school board members- I was at the corpus christi conference to support my child when they played in the morning and I had the pleasure of talking with Ms. Huerta and it sad to hear false statements about this nice lady. I can tell you that Ms. Huerta and 2 other boardmembers drove to the conference in their OWN cars and the superintendent drove the school suv. This seems to be an intentional malice ill will false statement against this lady to cause her harm, so shame on you, but I do agree on one thing and that is-
yes- wake up taxpayers and vote smart for the truth does and will always prevail.

what’s up with these uniforms? what happened to purple and gold? maybe, just maybe… simple lack of common sense decisions such as these are reason why students continue to leave the san benito for nearby school districts. are these uniforms hand me downs from harlingen cisd? is the financial crisis that bad?

I agree with comment pertaining to wasting of tax dollars. Let me give you a better example of wasteful tax dollars. A few weeks ago there was a school board conference in Corpus Christi, and the super rented a van so all board members including himself could drive up together. Great idea! But guess what, Fatima Huerta( school board member) could not drive up with them because she was taking her spouse so the district needed to rent her a car separately. What a shame and wast of tax dollars. Apparently, she’s notorious for that and also Oscar Medrano for wasting tax dollars foolishly.. Wake up tax payers and vote smart this time around..

No money yet the superintendent and board are in Nashville. That money could have been used to hire a part time nurse for those campuses without one. Superintendent has frozen all hiring several campuses sharing a nurse.

    @Typical SB
Sorry, I missed transparency. Your right about all these individuals that visit our local coffee shops; all they do is try to poison the minds of anyone who will listen. I believe these individuals need to stop, and get out of the way of progress. Those of you who are guilty, you know who you are; these tactics are getting old, and the rest of us citizens are tired of your crap. Let the people vote for themselves and not who you feel is going to do your crooked bidding. I speak to all citizens, vote for the best candidate not who these individuals tell you to. If any of you hear rumors or gossip call the candidate and find out for yourself; I’m sure they will be willing to answer you.

Common sense, along with a degree would be an ideal combination, this is what the rest of the country and the world runs on. Do we have such combinations here in San Benito, sure we do.Where are they hiding, and how is it we end up with clowns we do.What attracts them to San Benito,I don’t see them in Harlingen,or McAllen, must be something in the Resaca ? No, these types thrive where you have a low IQ voter population, that can be easily manipulated,or simply bought out by favors/jobs.It seems to be working well for the candidates here, and it has and will continue to spread itself well through the school system and the city services.

Common sense, along with a degree??? You’re asking for way too much!
You got it right, Juan. Compadrismo and politqiueras reign supreme!

I agree with your comment but I fee the lack of transparency is what has ruined our school politics.. Our town unfortunately is fixated on rumors and gossip spread at the coffee shops by a few people who have nothing else to do but gossip. People have learned these people are no good for our politics and are there for their self gain. Get to know your candidates, and vote of facts not speculations or gossip..

I disagree with this message which you are trying to imply that only educated individuals should run for an elected position that doesn’t pay a dime. I believe anyone can run, this is not rocket science we’re talking about here. Every candidate that runs spends a lot of money, usually their own; yet I don’t see too many educated individuals vying to run for school board positions. We’ve seen what educated and non- educated individuals have done with our school system, so where does your comment fit into all of this? I believe common sense is a more valuable quality; not always a degree. I’m not knocking down anyone who has earned their degree, because I’m sure they have earned it, but please stop bringing up that only educated individuals are the ones that can do this job. We as citizens need to vote smart and look at all candidates and what they bring to the table. I myself am tired of this side against that side; why not try working together for a change. I’m speaking to all candidates, and citizens of San Benito.

Super Arnold will be happy to read your comments in support of the ‘non-educated individuals’.
The truth is that the district is on the verge of going under not because of ‘educated and non-educated individuals’ but because of the compadre system and the crooks! Both groups have equally participated!

Looks like Super Arnold can’t solve this one! I wonder where he got his degree anyway??

  3. There’s several reasons why our district is financial crisis. First, board members have run the district since for the past 12 years, and the hired unnecessary staff for political favors. Second, you have a business manager that has never been held accountable! The clinical was brought in by famous BobTrevino several years ago. Thirdly, our healthcare rates sinks because our business manager dropped the ball several times and never took the advice that would of made it a great deal for our district and employees.. Bottom line because of our business manager we are in this huge mess..

As we look at new candidates running this May I ask how is it that some people are motivated to run with absolutely no education?, Yes, some may be enrolled, for years it seems like, yet they have not earned any degree. I’ll point out that Place 3 has uneducated candidates. I ask the citizen of San Benito to stop voting in the “whats in it for me” approach and start analyzing who we choose to lead our studentes and faculty to better academic standards. It is beyond me, why this race has 2 incumbents challenging each other for this seat, I would venture to say that one already felt she had it lost in her current seat therefore resorted to another. Please vote wisely.

In private industry its called competition.Produce a quality product at an economic price.
Seems the San Benito CISD can’t do either right, and to blame the charter schools for the San Benito CISD’s failures, sour grapes,to say the least.
Toss out the excessive dead weight, cut the crap, get back to trying to teach the kids to read, write, and add.Don’t be concerned with flip flop electives, that cost more than they benefit the students college transcript. This should not be that difficult, especially with all the federal tax money that they are given. So where’s the problem ? As Tony said long ago,the San Benito CISD is here to benefit the people working for them, not to worry with the students, they can make it on their own.
Well, the chickens are coming home to roost.
