Dr. Puig: There won’t be any reductions at this meeting

For all the confusion and turmoil the San Benito CISD has been facing over the past few weeks regarding which employees could be getting terminated at a special board meeting this Thursday, Superintendent Dr. Marc A. Puig made it quite simple. “There won’t be any areas of reduction identified at this meeting,” said Puig.

It was widely reported that at this special board meeting, Dr. Puig would have an outlined list of areas where individuals needed to be terminated; the Superintendent had slightly different plans. “Rather than trying to fix this in one fell swoop and get the District back on its feet, this is more of a sensitive approach and I’m hopeful the board will be encouraged to go with it,” said Puig.

Hector Leal and Angel Mendez did their homework. In almost every school district, employees pay for their families to have insurance.
This board brought in a CONSULTANT who told them just that and yet they voted against the superintendent’s recommendation except for Hector and Angel.
Do those other board members really think they know more than a superintendent, who he stated has been in 7 school districts?

Two board members were not voted back… it is time for the other THREE, Y Gonzales, F Huerta and Anna C.
to be removed off the board.

They are all responsible for three years of bad decisions.

    San Benito Voters/Taxpayers:

The SBCISD voted by majority not to go through the TRS option . From what I read it seems that the school board felt another alternative plan could be presented and make it work. I have prayed (like I am sure others have) that the Lord gives Dr. Puig and board members the guidance in coming to a good understanding and option to prevent the 100, 200, +- job losses.

    Thanks for reading my blog.

216 students left to Harlingen CISD according to superintendent. Wow oh wow! IDEA is not the completion, it’s good old red and white.

I’m glad I wasn’t the only one that noticed that stat Frank.

School board members and district administrators making statements to the press about major reasons why the school district is in the mess its in is because many students leave to competing charter and private schools. PPP! The top two school districts students transferred to are both public school districts.

Regardless of students coming and going, the truth is the school district was managed poorly by district administrators and school board members. All politics aside, if San Benito truly wants what is best for its students it will do its best to make those responsible for all this accountable for their actions. It’s time to stop living by what people did in the past and who knows who. All the politics. It’s PPP! It’s time to focus on getting things done now and for/in the future. For the students. For the city.

      Yliana – vote her out!
      Fatima – vote her out!
      Oscar – vote him out!
      Hector – vote him out!
      Anna – vote her out!

They are all responsible for the financial mess that has happened to this district and need to be held accountable it. The San Benito CISD deserves board members that will stand up for what’s right and then follow through with it and do it. Board members that will fight to the end for what’s best for the students of the SBCISD. The school district doesn’t need a majority board that makes bad decisions and the school district definitely doesn’t need a minority board that hides behind the well I tried but we didn’t have enough votes claims. PPP! Limon, Celeste, Julian, and June have all been ousted. Now it’s time to finish the cleaning process and start with the growing process. The future of San Benito.. Pride makes a difference.

Until the law somehow steps in and holds these people legally responsible for their bad & unethical decision making skills, this process will continue to happen over and over. The result being wasted years and continue division within the board. The SBCISD doesn’t have a true vision and has a poorly built foundation. Perhaps Dr. Puig is onto something by wanting to change the employee infrastructure/food chain. Ultimately, the district will be led nowhere and will be washed away unless things truly change. Dr. Puig can’t fix all this alone. It takes more than one person to fix the mess that the SBCISD is in.

In essence that is the problem, nobody running for re-election will be held accountable by the voters of San Benito ,and so the saga continues, and the kids are the real losers in the end.

    DISCLAIMER:

In response to the emails, text-msgs, etc. that I have received questioning this comment, I wish to post a disclaimer that the comment made above by “Jose” on April 15, 2015 @ 7:36 p.m. was NOT made by me, Jose F. Rodriguez.

However, I do agree with the comment “…all those running for re-election will finally be held accountable by the voters of San Benito for what they created since 2012.”

Dipping into the “Reserve Fund” in consecutive years to fund a self-insured health plan was not a very wise move and should not have been approved! A prime key to maintaining financial stability is to maintain a healthy “Reserve Fund”.

    Back to lunch!

Well no surprise from Dr. Puig. After worrying so many district employees and their families, you decide to now share a 3-Year Plan. What wonderful timing you have sir. With 24 days left before the school election, I wonder why oh why all of the sudden we will see this 3-Year Plan.
You sure found out that South Texas is no West Texas. Welcome to “let me see how you can help me help you”.

Just waiting for May 9 and all those running for re-election will finally be held accountable by the voters of San Benito for what they created since 2012.
