Manuel Lara, 60, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, July 12, 2015 following a sudden illness. Manuel-Lara online
Manuel was born in Edroy, Texas to Lazaro and Estella Lara, Sr. He attended Odem-Edroy ISD and he joined the Army in 1973. He later received his GED while serving in the Army. He received a degree in Petroleum Engineering from the University of Texas in Austin and another degree in Drafting and Design from South Texas Vocational College.
He owned his own janitorial business in Austin. He later moved back to Edroy and served as City Manager for the City of Mathis from 1998 to 2008. He served as City Manager for the City of San Benito from 2008 to the present.
He is preceded in death by his parents, his brother Lazaro Lara, his brothers-in-law, Bacilio Ortiz, Johnny Lopez and Daniel Pina.
He is survived by his loving family, his sons – Paul Anthony Lara and Daniel Lazarus (Jennifer) Lara, his daughters – Sara Elise Lara and Araceli Clarissa Lara, grandchildren – Noah Abraham Villarreal, Ava Danielle Alvarez, Mia Grace Lara and Lazarus Aries Lara, his brother and sisters – Genoveva Ortiz, Petra (Raul) Cavazos, Augustine (Maricela) Lara, Leonor (Onofre) Flores of Edroy, Aurora (Salvador) Garcia, Maria Nieves (Lorenzo) Olivarez, Ofelia Lopez, Beatrice Pina, Estella (Robert) Martinez of Odem and Eufemia (Rene) Cantu of Freer.
A prayer service was be held at 7:00 p.m. Thursday, July 16, 2015 at Ritchea-Gonzales Funeral Home in Sinton. Funeral services were conducted at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, July 17, 2015 at the First Baptist Church, 307 W. Turner St., Odem, Texas.
Interment followed at the Edroy Cemetery in Edroy with full military honors.
