Skate Park PicFor years, skaters in San Benito have had a skate park to call their own, albeit a small and very basic park compared to neighboring cities, but a skate park nonetheless. Well, now they don’t even have that anymore, but don’t take that as bad news just yet.

According to San Benito Parks and Rec Director Art Garza, the city is currently remodeling the deteriorating park and there have even been talks to relocate the park in order to get away from the bar-littered area. The remodeling, however, isn’t expected to be completed till October and the relocation of the park has yet to be put on an official City Commission agenda.

Building a new skate park in San Benito would be awesome! My son usually has to drive to another town to skateboard. He started skateboarding about two months ago and has become more physically fit in that short period of time. San Benito’s kids and young adults need a skateboarding park where they can become healthier, improve their skills, and feel a sense of accomplishment right in their own hometown. My son can drive to a nearby town, but most of our kids cannot do that. Let’s do something productive for our sons and daughters: Let’s build them a new and challenging skate park, in a nice area, where they can prove to themselves and others that ‘practice makes perfect’! And we can prove to them that they are valuable and important assets to our community.
