With both Mexico’s Independence Day and National Guacamole Day taking place in less than a month on September 16, Findthehome.com decided to use Dun and Bradstreet to look at the Mexican restaurant density of any American city with a population over 20,000. Well, in addition to already being known as “Freddy Fender’s hometown” and the “Resaca City,” San Benito can now add the moniker of “Mexican food capital of Texas” to its list.
The most notable Mexican restaurant in San Benito was listed as Vicky’s restaurant, which has been a staple in the city for the past 11 years. “We’ve always taken a lot of pride in our food so it’s a great compliment to be recognized like that,” said Josie Rodriguez, who works at the restaurant. “We haven’t really read through it to really see what the article says, but we know that we’re thankful for everybody who comes to eat here and we hope they continue to come.”
