On August 11, the City of San Benito was notified that they were in violation of the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) guidelines. The violations stem from a failure to submit water quality reports for the months of March, April, and May. Although there was no violation in actual water quality and all water test results came back fine, the TCEQ requires test results to be submitted on a regular basis.
According to TCEQ, all public water systems are required to collect and submit chemical samples of water provided to their customers, and report the results every month. While tests did reveal the presence of the chemical “Chlorite,” the water has been deemed drinkable for the months in question.
