Back in 2012, a murder case stunned the community when six alleged gang members were arrested in connection with the death of 19-year old Angel Perez, who was stabbed 14 times by 18-year old Robert John Anthony Martinez of San Benito. Martinez was eventually convicted and sentenced to 50 years in prison back in November 2013.
Fast-forward to June of this year and once again the community found itself shocked by the news of yet another teen being killed when 19-year old Christopher Gallegos was stabbed to death at a graduation party. And according to Gallegos’ mother, the tragic-course of events leading up to her son’s death all started with Martinez’s case back in 2012-13.
“This goes way back… Because of Robert Martinez,” said Claudia Cortez, noting that one of the four suspects in her son’s case is a brother of Robert Martinez. “Back then, Christopher was a witness in Robert’s case, so I guess it started up again. Since Christopher testified against his brother… I think it was like a vengeance against my son,” she added.
