On March 1, 2005, the body of San Benito resident Alex Villarreal was found in a canal on the outskirts of town.Villarreal had been a witness to the murder of Juan Hernandez that occurred on October 1, 2004. He was scheduled to testify against Rene Garcia, who faced charges for Hernandez’s murder. The investigation into Villarreal’s death led authorities to believe Jesus Alejandro Rodriguez was involved in the murder.
Now, more than ten years later, the decision to put him behind bars for 50 years has been upheld by the 13th Court of Appeals in Corpus Christi.
