Corruption has become the “new normal” in the Rio Grande Delta. Law enforcement, school officials, county employees…and the list goes on and on. My question is as follows: is it due to the continuing moral decay in our nation and the lack of a “moral compass” in people or is it a cultural issue unique to this region? I have witnessed Falcon, Marmelejo, Cantu, and Trevino go to federal prisons for corruption as Sheriffs sworn to protect and serve. I don’t think there is enough room to list the names of all the school board members in the “valley” that have been busted. Oh, and let us not forget the fraud of our medical community. It is difficult to trust anyone here in the valley.
