Back In Action- New coach looks to continue winning tradition

Over the last two decades, the Lady ’Hounds have been one of the most successful sports programs in the entire Rio Grande Valley. Team tradition has carried them to eighteen playoff appearances, seven Sweet 16 births, three visits to the Elite Eight, two trips to the State Semifinals and a bevy of individual accolades along the way, including several players who went on to play college ball. All of that, however, was under former coach Elias Martinez who left for Harlingen South a few weeks after the conclusion of last season.
This year, former Weslaco High and Howard University softball star Krystal Leal will be heading the team and she has no interest in dwelling on past accomplishments. “We haven’t done anything yet,” said Leal after leading a high-tempo practice. “We still have a lot of work to do.”

    I was disappointed to see that this new coach painted over all the signs at the Lady Hounds field. Now it is like it never happened. It’s like she feels intimidated by the success of past years.
