A near-fatal accident this weekend left one local woman in critical condition after escaping the accident with a broken wrist, a broken neck and severe internal bleeding. The woman, later identified as 23-year old Sarah Lopez of San Benito, is currently hooked up to a ventilator in the intensive care unit of Valley Baptist Medical Center. The male driver of the car, 29-year-old Christian De La Cruz, also suffered serious injuries, but is expected to recover sooner rather than later. Unfortunately, as De La Cruz waits for his injuries to heal while in a hospital bed, San Benito Police are awaiting the results of a blood test that could lead to an arrest for Intoxication Assault for the San Benito man.
