After a questionable photo was sent to media outlets around the area, Rio Hondo ISD decided to put their Chief of Police on administrative leave with pay. Nick Garza, a Navy Veteran, has denied any wrongdoing and already filed a grievance against the RHISD. According to Garza’s lawyer, John Shergold, the former military police officer is also trying to find the person who sent out the picture as they are subject to slander charges.Garza
The picture was sent out this past Monday on July 11 by an anonymous sender known only as, “defender defender.” Along with the picture, the sender added a written message stating, “Is this Nick Garza, the Rio Hondo ISD Chief of Police, smoking from a Marijuana bong? What a great example for our children.”

  1. Will if antything it does raise some curiosity. Rio Hondo school district has right to let the justice system go through the process . If anythings costing money and time. Adimistrative leave with pay is only the right thing to do untill all the mess gets strighten out.

Nick Garza was once a DPS officer. He was “let go” for allegedly protecting drug loads. He replaced a veteran officer who was fired for no apparent reason. He had no discrepancies in his past. He is suing the RHISD for wrongful termination. Oh, his step-mom just happens to work in Central Office and dad was once the Ag teacher. I SMELL A RAT! Also, during the interview process for a new Chief, the person who scored the highest WAS NOT HIRED. Does anybody else smell NEPOTISM?
