San Benito – Duane Olson, 72, passed away at a local hospital on Saturday, June 25, 2011.
Duane Olson was a retired Air Force Major who worked as a Russian translator for the Air Force. His last assignment was with Joint Special Operation Command. After retiring, Duane became winter Texan and spent several years volunteering to teach english at the Harlingen Literacy Center.
He was preceded in death by a brother Paul Olson.
He is survived by his wife Mary Ann Olson; one son Jon Eric Olson; three brothers Loren Olson, Harley Olson and Keith Olson; two sisters June Knopp and Sharon Davidson; three grandchildren Frederick, Danielle and Maxine; 15 nephews and nieces.
Church services were held on Tuesday, June 28, 2011, at 10 a.m. at St John’s Lutheran Church in San Benito.
Private burial will be held at a later date.
