A man escaped near death Tuesday after risking his life to move multiple propane tanks to safety, this before they exploded near a busy thoroughfare in San Benito.

It was 3 p.m. on May 22 when Rigo Dominguez, 46, of Edinburg was performing his usual routine of picking up propane tanks at Ferrell Gas, located on the 100 block of N. Williams Rd.

It’s when Dominguez said he heard a hissing sound in the back of his truck that his routine turned deadly.

“I was in the back moving the tanks when I saw the fire start,” he said. “I immediately threw a few (tanks) out.”
