A high-speed chase that ran from Brownsville and through San Benito ended in a crash and the retrieval of 245-pounds of marijuana yesterday afternoon.  According to the Cameron County Constable’s Office, Border Patrol agents in Brownsville noticed a man loading bundles into a maroon Chevrolet Impala, at which point a pursuit ensued.  “Border Patrol saw them loading up, but then lost them and my deputies were patrolling and saw the vehicle off Espinosa Road near the La Palomo area,” said Precinct 3 Constable Roel Cavazos.  Both agencies then continued the pursuit, which eventually ended in a crash at the end of F.M. 509, just about a mile north of 281.  “He blew out one of his back tires, but kept going for a while over 100 (mph),” Cavazos said.  “He exited the vehicle and tried running into a field, but the deputies were able to run him down.”

The male subject is expected to be arraigned today.  Charges expected are evading arrest and possession with intent to deliver, however there could be more possible charges.
Cavazos noted that the amount of drugs confiscated had a street value of $196,400.
