Sister Zita Telkamp
Sister Zita Telkamp of La Posada Providencia, a San Benito shelter for new immigrants and asylum seekers, has been nominated by Bishop Daniel E. Flores for The Catholic Church Extension Society’s prestigious Lumen Christi Award.
Now in its 36th year, the Lumen Christi award is presented to a religious woman, priest, lay person or group whose service builds faith, inspires hope and ignites change. If Sister Zita is selected as the recipient of the Lumen Christi award, both La Posada and the Diocese of Brownsville will receive a $25,000 grant, for a total of $50,000 to fund their ministries.
With a unique and exciting opportunity to help Sister Zita win this award, the number of votes each candidate receives on the Catholic Extension website will be a factor in selecting the final winner. Voting is only open until April 5.
Those who prefer to vote for Sister Zita on Facebook can do so following these instructions:
• Go to your Facebook page
• Go to www.facebook.com/CatholicExtension and “Like” the page.
• Click on the “Lumen Christi Award” tab.
• Click on the “View Entries” button at the bottom of the page.
• Scroll down to Sister Zita and click “Vote.” You’ll be taken to her page where you can cast your vote by clicking on the blue “vote” button.

• Scroll down to Sister Zita’s name and click the blue “Vote Now” button.
• On her nomination page, click on the blue “Vote” button. You must click this button for your vote to count.
